Moving into a new place can be very exciting. Sometimes, however, it can be a struggle to feel at home in your new home and living in a space that doesn’t feel like home yet. It might feel strange cooking in a new kitchen, navigating through the cabinets and drawers, and showering in your new shower. Here are some easy fixes to help you feel right at home!

1.) Get unpacked as quickly as you can!

Waking up in an unfamiliar space surrounded by boxes you need to dig through to find your belongings every morning is not going to make you feel at home. Try to unpack your boxes as quickly as you can. You can always reorganize closets and cabinets later after your fully unpack and get a sense of your new space.

2.) Add Some Life with Plants

Adding a little life and color with plants, both live and artificial can make your space feel like home. Some indoor live plants can even help reduce humidity and detoxify your air. Check with your local nurseries and support locals if you can.

3.) Non-Permanent Décor

Hanging up your décor can make your place feel more like home. Display your favorite photos, add a cozy rug and purchase some new throw pillows.

4.) Be Strategic with Lighting

Some rental spaces have low natural lighting. Make your home feel more like your own by choosing your lighting. Floor lamps tend to make a home feel more spacious and inviting! Also, consider the bulbs you are using, if the light feels harsh opt for bulbs with lower-wattages or filaments to get a beautiful evening glow.

5.) Solve the Lack of Storage Space

If you live in a smaller space, you can solve your lack of storage space with open shelves to make your space still feel light and airy but provide you with additional storage space. Alternatively, add bins and baskets for a organized and tidy look.

6.)  Line your shelves and cabinets

If you are moving into an older home or apartment, lining your shelves and cabinets perfect solution to adding a more personal touch to your space. Not only does it look clean, but many liners also have antimicrobial protection to prevent the growth of odor-causing mold and mildew, plus they are easy to clean!
